Govt Commends Donor Agencies Over Fight against Killer Diseases 
The Peoples Democratic Party-led government in Kogi State has reiterated its obligation to the international donor agencies through prompt payment of counterpart contributions in all areas of partnership.
The state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Tom Ohikere, stated this in Lokoja last week while declaring open a sensitization/capacity development seminar on HINI (Swine Flu) for traditional rulers and information officers.
Ohikere stated that the seminar, which was organized by his Ministry in conjunction with UNICEF, is meant to educate participants, on the mode of transmission, prevention, control measures and the dangers posed by swine flu.
While describing the seminar as timely, he said it would heighten risk awareness and behavioural change among the people.
He therefore, commended UNICEF in its fight against killer diseases especially among children and women in the state.
Earlier, the Director, Planning, Research and Documentation of the ministry, Alhaji Sani Adamu, had enjoined the participants to take the seminar seriously to enable them carry the knowledge acquired to their different local government areas.
Highlight of the seminar was the lecture titled, an overview and up date of Swine Flu (HINI), strategies for prevention and control of (HINI) swine flu, the roles of governments and traditional rulers in the prevention, containment and control of swine Flu, swine Flu and the need for community surveillance delivered by Dr. Olarewaju Adeniran (WHO), Mr. Kehinde Okuku, (MOH) Chief Medupin Ibikunle, (NOA) and Dr. Isah Ochepa (MOA) respectively.
