Bayo Ojo Holds Campaign in Iyara
Men from all walks of life trooped to the ancient town of Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State to show their support for the gubernatorial aspiration of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), as he was being conferred with the chieftaincy title of Balogun of Ijumu kingdom.
Ten others amongst who are Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, the First Lady, Hajia Zainab Idris; and Prince Olusola Akamode were also conferred with chieftaincy titles.
Speaking at the carnival-like occasion that almost turned to a political rally, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Jeromu Summonu, said those conferred with chieftaincy titles have distinguished themselves in their careers as well as contributed immensely to physical and human development of Ijumu land.
While stating that those holding elective and appointed political positions were exempted for now but would be considered on merit at the expiration of their service, he pointed out that the kingdom was ready to reward hardwork and diligence. He added that conferment of chieftaincy titles was a continuous exercise.
In his address, Ijumu Local Government, boss, Deacon Joseph Owotogbe described the conferment of chieftaincy titles on governor Ibrahim Idris and Chief Bayo Ojo as a recognition and appreciation of their developmental efforts in Ijumu land.
Responding on behalf of other recipients, Chief Bayo Ojo expressed appreciation to Olujumu-in-council, saying the honour was timely and would spur him to do more for the people.
While stating that his manifesto is in the pipeline and would be out very soon, he disclosed that the development of education, sports, tourism and poverty alleviation through job creation would be his focus if given the mandate.
