Gov
Idris Advocates Proper
Funding of Rural
Projects
Donor agencies and the
World Bank have been
called upon to increase
the funding of rural
development projects to
enhance the welfare of
people living at the
grassroots.
Governor Ibrahim Idris
made the call while
declaring open the
second quarterly review
meeting of Nigeria
Community and Social
Development Projects (CSDP)
held at the Confluence
Beach Hotel, Lokoja.
Governor Idris said the
state government has
been paying its
counterpart fund to (CSDP)
since the inception of
his administration. He
therefore, called on the
World Bank and the
Federal Ministry of
Finance to increase the
funding of CSDP in the
state.
The governor maintained
that the state
government, in
collaboration with CSDP,
needs more funds to
prosecute commercial
agriculture, education
projects, rural
based-projects and
malaria control. He
added that if these
projects are executed,
the state would witness
rapid development at
both urban and rural
areas.
Representative of the
National Co-ordinator of
CSDP, Mr. Peter Papka
applauded Kogi State
Government for the rural
programme it has
executed. He urged the
state CSDP to maintain
the tempo to meet the
standard of the
organization.
The state co-ordinator
of CSDP, Mr. James Odiba,
urged the participants
to draw up mechanism
capable of enhancing
CSDP in the country.
