Educationist canvasses Peoples Partnership with Gov Idris
The Permanent Member 1, Kogi State Universal Basic Board, Hon. E. O. Funsho, has called on all members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kabba Branch, and all the youths in the area to support the Alhaji Ibrahim Idris- led administration for sustained growth and development of the state.
According to the press statement signed by Kogi West Zonal information Officer, Mr. S. A. Adeniyi and made available to The Graphic, Hon. Funsho made the statement in Kabba shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected executives of NURTW in the area.
He appealed to members of the Association to be disciplined and shun all acts of hooliganism as well as take advantage of the inherent nature of their profession to furnish the appropriate quarters with relevant information.
The Board members maintained that NURTW should be given a sense of belonging since they contribute to the economic and social lives of people. He also praised the chairman of the Association, Pastor Peter Ojo, for encouraging discipline among his members.
He stressed that the idea of giving the best driver, best behaved driver, best dressed driver cash award of N5000 each as well as the donation of N10, 000 to the NURTW was to motivate them for better performance, adding that the gesture would be a continuous one.
While appealing to the youths in area to shun cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse and other form of social vices, Hon. Funsho called on parents to provide the necessary learning materials for their children rather than leaving everything to the state government.
He also commended the wisdom with which Governor Idris is handling the problem existing between secondary schools and UBE schools. He disclosed that the issue would be solved so as to enhance the status of UBE schools as well as benefit from national and international programmes.

Bassa LG Builds Legislative Qtrs
In a bid to strengthen her democratic machinery, Bassa Local Government Council has embarked on the building of legislative quarters to accommodate the councillors of the local government area.
The local government Chairman, Hon. Musa Gwatana, who made this known in a chat with The Graphic in Lokoja, noted that the move is to make the legislators comfortable for legislative business.
Hon. Gwatana declared that the legislative quarters is made up of 16 flats, adding that it would cost about N16 million when completed.
The Council boss also stated that his administration had purchased six vehicles for the council’s use. He maintained that the vehicles would be used to ease the official activities of the council.
Hon. Gwatana also noted that the Department of Works had inspected dilapidated bridges across the three districts of the local government, declaring that the council will soon embark on their rehabilitation.
He commended the Bassa electorate for the support he has been receiving from them. He assured them of his commitment to transform the council area for good.

Yagba West Transformation Traced to Gov Idris
The transformation going on in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State has been attributed to the support and encouragement of the state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, to the present administration in the local government.
Mr. Ropo Asala, the Executive Chairman of the council, made this known in a chat with The Graphic in the Lokoja, last weekend.
The Executive Chairman explained that in less than 100 days of his administration, there had been social and economic developments touching the lives of people of the local government area.
He maintained that his administration has strictly adhered to a directive of the state government as it affects project implementation and budgetary utilization.
Mr. Asala disclosed that history would be made shortly as arrangement had almost been completed to commission some projects initiated by his administration to mark his 100 days in office.
The Chairman, who explained further that several other activities had been lined up to mark the occasion, disclosed that the state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, would be invited to commission the projects.
The local government boss commended the governor for supporting the candidature of Alhaji Hassan Salawu as State PDP Chairman, noting that Yagba people would remain eternally grateful to Alhaji Idris and his administration.

Housing Scheme, Succour for Low-Income Earners – Fmr. Minister

The proposed Housing Scheme for low-income earners by the Federal Government would assist in solving problems of housing faced by Nigerians.
Former Minister of Environment, Housing and Tourism, Arc. Halimat Alao, stated this in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen shortly after a prayer session organized in her honour.
Arc. Alao, who noted that government has already put in place measures that would assist Nigerians own houses, stated that the objective of the scheme was to enable low-income earners own houses with ease.
“We know that things are becoming expensive, but the essence of the scheme is to explore other ways of building, particularly by adding value to indigenous building materials which can be produced at affordable prices and of high quality that can stand the weather condition in the African”, she stressed.
She, thanked the president for the opportunity given to her to serve the country in his cabinet.

We’ll Encourage Private Investment – Hon Olofu
Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Yinusa Gabriel Olofu, has reiterated the determination of his administration to encourage and partner with individuals interested in establishing viable industries capable of providing gainful employment for the teaming population in the area.
Hon. Olofu stated this when he led members of the executive arm of the council on a visit to the site of SUNAB TECH. Ltd, Efokpe-Okpo in the LGA.
While commending the initiative of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Engr. Sunny Abutu, for establishing the Cassava Processing Industry in the area, Olofu said his administration would strive hard to give necessary support to well-to-do individuals interested in contributing their quotas to his administrations move towards developing the local government.
Reacting to a request which Engr. Abutu had earlier made for partnering with the council’s Ugbamaka Cassava Farms in the area of creating Directorate of employment which would cater for widows and the less-privileged, the chairman said his administration would without delay take a positive decision on the matter and communicate same to the company.
Also speaking, the secretary to the local government, Mr. Charles Oguche, expressed his happiness for siting the company in the LGA, saying that the company would provide a good market for cassava farmers in the LGA who hitherto conveyed their products to Benue, Enugu and other neighbouring states.
Engr. Abutu had informed the visiting council officers that the company produced high quality of cassava flour, using modern technology of flash dryer system, adding that the product has already been accepted in the market by major flour millers in Nigeria. He, however, urged cassava farmers in the area to patronize the company.

Embrace Botherhood, Shun Ethnicity
– Barr. Obayomi Advises Civil Servants

Civil servants in Kogi State have been urged to promote the spirit of brotherhood and tolerance irrespective of their ethnic and religious backgrounds to enhance the speedy development of the state.
According to a press statement signed by Ademu Seidu, Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Ministry of Justice, the state Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Barr. Samuel Obayomi, advocated this during a send-forth party organized in honour of Mallam Aliyu Ibrahim and Gimba Nmodu who retired from the ministry recently.
Barr. Obayomi noted that the attainment of goals in line with the vision of the present administration calls for a peaceful atmosphere devoid of sectional, ethnic and religious affinity.
He observed that the spirit of brotherliness demonstrated among the people of old Kabba province is what the present people of Kogi State need to take the state to the promised land.
The Solicitor-General described the retirees as dedicated and very hardworking staff of the ministry whose service would greatly be missed, adding that the joy of every civil servant is to retire from service successfully and without blemish.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the retirees commended the management and staff of the ministry for their wonderful show of love, while promising to uphold the love and bond of unity that had kept them and their former colleagues together over years.

Man Spends 30 Days behind Bars
A middle – aged man, Mallam Jajudeen Ibrahim, has been jailed for 30 days by an Area Court, Grade 1 Ilorin, for stealing a goat.
Mallam Ibrahim of Oritola compound, Offa in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, was accused of being in illegal possession of a goat suspected to be stolen; the offence is contrary to section 319A of Penal Code laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the Police First Information Report (PFIR), luck ran against the accused who is 42 years of age during the patrol of Ipata market by Division “C” police station in Ilorin. The goat, which was valued for N1,000, was found with the accused who could not give a satisfactory account of the goat.
Investigations conducted by the police revealed that Mallam Ibrahim stole the goat at Ajase town and had come to the market to dispose it before he was rounded up.
The judge, Abdullateef Kamaldeen, having convicted the accused, therefore, sentenced him to one month imprisonment.

KSU Inaugurates Alumni Association
The management of Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba, has inaugurated the Alumni Association of the institution.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr. James Erikiti and made available to The Graphic, the inauguration was conducted by Professor A.O. Muzan.
Mr. Abu S. Danladi was appointed Protem President, while Mr. Adeniyi Adedoyin Adesupo became Secretary.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Protem President, Mr. Danladi, congratulated the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, on the Honorary Doctorate of Law conferred on him by the institution during the 2nd convocation ceremony of the institution.
He equally congratulated the new Vice – Chancellor, Professor Hassan Isah, for his emergence as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of KSU.
According to him, he would lead the association to bring alumni of the institution together to contribute their quota to the development of the institution to complement government’s effort.
