In
recognition of the inestimable
role of accountants in Kogi
State, the state government
has approved the Directorate
of Accounts and Finance with
immediate effect.
Governor Ibrahim Idris who
disclosed this to executive
committee members of the Kogi
State Branch of Association
of National Accountants of
Nigeria (ANAN) who paid him
a courtesy visit in Government
House, Lokoja, said the new
development would facilitate
what he described as “the
good works of the accountants
in the state”.
As part of his approval of
ANAN’s requests, Governor
Idris assured the accountants
that his administration would
continue to assist them at
ANAN School in Jos, Plateau
State.
He reiterated his readiness
to partner with ANAN to ensure
rapid development of the state,
stressing that the fact that
the accountants had not been
arrested for financial impropriety
testified that there are credible
accountants in Kogi State
civil service.
Earlier, the chairman of Kogi
State ANAN, Mr. Omale Isaac
Damian, noted that the Peoples
Democratic Party government
in the state “had been
a father to ANAN”. He
lauded the governor and his
deputy, Dr. Philip Salawu,
for their roles in ANAN’s
mandatory continuing professional
development workshops since
2004.
He stated that owing to the
governor’s partnership
with ANAN, the chapter hosted
mandatory workshop programme
in August 2005 successfully,
which had enhanced the position
of the Kogi ANAN in Nigerian
accountancy body of achievers.
He commended the state government
for approval for land allocation
within Lokoja suitable for
ANAN state secretariat, establishment
of Directorate of Accounts
and Finance, and the continual
sponsorship for ANAN members
in government agencies and
establishments.
Mr. Damian affirmed that “Governor
Idris’ administration
is a father of development
best described as an administration
of pragmatic professional
liberalism”.
