Fed Poly Gets New
Deputy Rector
A new Deputy Rector has been
appointed for the Federal
Polytechnic, Idah, (FPI). He is Mr.
James Drisu Abu.
Mr. Abu whose appointment was
approved by the Governing Council of
the institution, is the seventh
Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic and
the first graduate of Federal
Polytechnic Idah to attain the post
in the institution since its
establishment in 1987.
Born on 25th March, 1960, Mr. Abu
hails from Emachi -Ajaka in
Igalamela/Odolu Local Government
Area of Kogi State . He joined the
services of the Polytechnic as
Technologist II in the Department of
Food Science Technology in 1987.
Apart from the Higher National
Diploma (HND) obtained from FPI in
1985, he is also a holder of Masters
Degree in Food Science Technology
from the University of Science and
Technology, Enugu,; and a doctorate
(PHD) student at the Federal
University of Agriculture , Makurdi.
Meanwhile, the Polytechnic has
renewed its partnership with
Ajaokuta Steel Company towards
reviving the existing collaboration
between them.
The partnership was renewed during
the recent visit of the members of
the Governing Council of the
Polytechnic to the Steel Company.
Stakeholders told
to Ensure Success of UBE Scheme
The Chairman, Kogi State House of
Assembly Committee on Education,
Hon. Yakubu Yunusa has called on
stakeholders in the education sector
to pay more attention to the
successful implementation of the
Universal Basic Education (UBE)
scheme.
Delivering a welcome address at the
National Workshop on Qualitative
Implementation of UBE Scheme in
Nigeria, Hon. Yunusa said, “I call
on all stakeholders of the education
sector in Kogi State and Nigeria in
general to be more focused, active
and committed to the growth of
education in Nigeria.
“It has become imperative for all
stakeholders in education sector to
join hands together for effective
management of UBE scheme”, he said.
Kogi State Government, he said, has
shown more commitment to the
education sector by allocating the
highest share in the 2010 budget to
education.
The former head of service in Kogi
State Dr. (Mrs.) Sabina L. Attah
delivered the keynote address while
officers of the Universal Basic
education Commission presented
papers, as they also monitored
participation at the seminar.
The General Manager of Kogi State
Newspaper, The Graphic, Mr. Okpe
alos delivered a paper on effective
of Democracy on Education.
A lecturer at the Kogi State College
of Education,Mr. Wada Aji, who spoke
on teachers’ motivation said no
efforts towards revamping the
education sector will be successful,
if the government and the society
continues to ignore the plight and
welfare of teachers.
