INEC Commissioner Preaches against Violence
Youths have been urged to learn to say no to those who approach them to enroll them into violent activities as they are leaders of tomorrow, just as they should denounce violence in whatever form.
The Kwara State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, represented by Mr. John M. Uke, Deputy Director State Training Office, stated this at the instance of the office of the P.R.O. National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) during the seminar on campaign against immorality and violence on Nigerian campus, at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The Commissioner stated that electoral violence has been in form of molestation, embarrassment, assault, looting, stealing, kidnapping, arson, destructions of property, raping and killings.
He added that inordinate ambition to win power, ignorance or illiteracy on the part of voters, greed, dishonesty, manipulation of electoral system and manipulation of political officers could be responsible for electoral violence in Nigeria.
His words: “students union leaders should be bold to ask the recruiting politicians where their own children are and their roles in this circumstance.
