Ohinoyi Blames Obehira Crisis on Politicians
Worried by the recent crisis in Obehira – Okengwen in Kogi Central Senatorial District, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim said he would continue to intervene for peace to reign in the area, just as he noted that as a royal father, the safety of his people and passers-by would not be trivialized.
He made this known in his palace at Okene during a press briefing on the crisis, saying the violence was ignited sequel to a pamphlet that was circulated on “who succeeds Ohidache”?
According to the royal father, some people hide under masquerades, politics and clannish differences to perpetrate crime, adding that selfish politicians use the cultural system to their own advantage at the peril of the entire society.
Commending governor Ibrahim Idris for “his untiring intervention” in the crises in Ebiraland, the Ohinoyi however appealed to the state government to implement the recent report of a committee set up to inquire into the Obehira – Okengwen crisis.
He assured that just like in 2007 when he intervened to mellow down Ihima crisis, he would make sure that peace returned to Obehira-Okengwen communities.
The royal father who also recalled that after the Ihima crisis, he recommended to the state government to establish the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, payment of compensation to victims, among other recommendations.
